Dynasty Mattress: Gel Memory Foam Mattresses

 

Dynasty Mattress (DM) is a brand which has been around at least since late 2008. A promotional video was uploaded to YouTube on July 17, 2011, ten days after a review of three DM models (10 Inch Deluxe, 12 Inch Therapeudic / Luxury, 15 Inch Grand) by Orthopedic Mattress, a site devoted to information and reviews on memory foam mattresses, mattress pads or toppers. But reviews of Dynasty Mattress models on their website go back as far as October 22, 2008, two-and-aa-half years before the Orthopedic Mattress reviews.

On the Dynasty Mattress “About” page, they say, “Dynasty Mattress has over 10 years of mattress and bedding online retail experience. We offer the latest technology and innovation to all of mattresses and adjustable base. We also offer gel memory foam pillows and other sleep accessories that contribute to your sleep.” This puts them in business at least as far back as mid-2008.

Dynasty Mattress‘s Amazon profile says, “Dynasty Mattress is a mattress factory. We sell direct to customers and ship directly from our multiple warehouses (California, Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky and Pennsylvania).”  Notice that only the location of the warehouses is mentioned, not that of the factory or factories. The mattresses are now made in China. However, when one of their mattresses is paired with an adjustable base, the Leggett & Platt bases have a USA Made icon. And though the Reverie adjustable foundations are not labeled as such, they are made in the U.S.

Their mattresses are among the top dozen selling brands and the ninth rated brand of memory foam mattresses on Amazon (it would be 11th, but one higher-rated brand is really latex, and another is foam but not memory foam). They are generally low-cost mattresses, being made in China. DM cites its years of experience in marketing bedding products, but they do not indicate how far back this goes. DM states that its mattresses are comparable to equivalent Tempur-Pedic models.

The DM website lists their mattresses by Categories. All but one category list individual models on the Categories page beneath the category name (that category is the 11-Inch Hybrid CoolBreeze Gel Memory Foam Mattress, the only Dynasty Mattress category to have springs). The models are really different sizes of the categories. This differs from the practice of most mattress manufacturers, who list sizes as part of a model listing. Clicking on a mattress name on the list brings up the description of that model and/or size.

Many of the categories are mattresses sold with adjustable beds by Leggett & Platt and Reverie.

Features

Most Dynasty Mattress models are firmer than average memory foam mattresses. Reviewers tend to see them as also cooler. When the density of the top foam layer is cited, in most cases (for instance the 10″ CoolBreeze GEL Mattress) it is 4 lbs. Some of the highest models (such as the 15″ Luxury GRAND Mattress) have 5-lb. memory foam at the top, but with more foam beneath. The 4-lb. foam is less temperature sensitive and more pressure sensitive. Therefore, it is naturally cooler than 5-lb. memory foam, but initially more yielding. But firmness in memory foam is relative to both weight and heat, so for a person with more body heat, the 5-lb. foam would seem softer.

 

   

 

There are two factors to the apparent coolness of Dynasty Mattress products relative to other memory foam mattresses. One is the infusion of gel beads into the memory foam of most models. The other is DM’s CoolBreeze AirFlow System. Gel does provide initial cooling if the mattress has sat unused for several hours. It can absorb heat for some time. How much and for how long depends on the type of infusion and the type of gel. It also depends on heat absorbed by the gel being transferred to where it can dissipate.

          

Most memory foam now has an open-cell structure, which does let air filter through the foam. Some memory foams, such as those using Selectabed’s Airflow Transfer System, have vertical pores, which allow several times more air to flow through, as can be seen in this video.

Part of the Dynasty Mattress CoolBreeze AirFlow System is its Cool AirFlow Foam, which is convoluted on the top surface. This permits air to flow horizontally to the border of the mattress. The downside of this is that as deeply as the convolutions are cut into the foam, they partly compromise support and stability.

In the Airflow Transfer System (ATF), the top surface of the lower foam layer has numerous smaller channels cut into the surface, They are not as deep, leaving the support foam more supportive. They do not need to be as deep, because the foam(s) above are vertically ventilated, allowing air to pass more freely in that direction. This could be one reason the Snuggle-Pedic Mattress has a higher average customer rating (4.9) than any DynastyMattress model.

    

 

In the 11-Inch Hybrid CoolBreeze Gel Memory Foam Mattress, the springs are wrapped pocket coils, selected for their conformity. Whereas the other DM categories are compared to Tempur-Pedic mattresses, the 11-Inch Hybrid is held up against Beautyrest Black mattress models. Another reason for pocket coils is that they can be compressed and rolled, unlike most innerspring types.

Dynasty Mattress now compresses, seals, rolls and boxes their mattresses to be shipped out by FedEx. Those sold on Amazon are fulfilled by Amazon. Shipping is free within the 48 contiguous states, For ones sold on Amazon Canada, there is free shipping in Canada.

The warranty on Dynasty Mattress’s memory foam mattresses is for 20 years, but for the hybrid it is 30 years. The sleep trial is 120 nights, which begins the day of delivery.

 

Customer Response

There are only three sources for reviews and ratings of Dynasty Mattress products by customers, but there are several reviews on sites claiming to post independent reviews.

Outside Reviews

Almost all of the individual mattress review sites (such as Ted & Stacey’s Mattress Guides & Reviews) are favorable, especially of the 12″ CoolBreeze GEL Mattress and the 12″ Luxury Therapeutic Mattress.

Dynasty Mattress

Dynasty Mattress’s website has a page with all of the reviews and ratings posted by customers. However, these are not on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, but Positive (+), Neutral (0), and Negative (-). They are listed by date, newest first, and extend back to October 22, 2008. Out of a total of 2,917 comments, only 621 have ratings. 531 of these are Positive, 53 Neutral, and 37 Negative, with a “Feedback Score” of 92.69%.

GoodBed

The model with the most reviews is the Cool Breeze 12-Inch Gel Memory Foam Mattress with 2,317 verified customer reviews (about ⅔ of all reviews) and an average rating of 4.33 of 5 stars (86.51%).  The overall average of the 3,811 reviews is 4.30 (86.05%).

There are only 36 ratings of Dynasty Mattress on GoodBed, and only six of them name the model. Overall, the average rating for the company is 2.83 stars (56.7%). For the beds named, the average rating is 3.50 (70%).

Amazon

On Amazon, the Dynasty Mattress models are often listed by the firmness option and the size, and therefore, these mostly get separate reviews and ratings. However, the customer looking at one size-firmness combination can select a different size and/or firmness. The result is that some 12 models have 21 average ratings. Pros & Cons

The most cited pros of mattresses by Dynasty Mattress are coolness and low price. The #1 con is too firm when new, inconsistent firmness, shipping errors (such as wrong foundation, missing items, etc), and communication.
